Is carpet the right choice for your home?

Posted by admin on August 24th, 2008 filed in General | Comment now »

There are many misconceptions when it comes to health and maintenance issues concerning carpet in your home. Many people blame carpet for causing allergies, asthma, and other health conditions but when you look closely at the FACTS…the FACTS show that carpet is one of the best flooring surfaces you can put into your home.

Let’s take a look at some of the FACTS when it comes to carpet:

1. Carpet is a safer flooring surface than tile and grout, wood floors, and vinyl. This is absolutely true. Think about this. Which flooring surface would you rather have your kids fall and hit their head on. The obvious choice is the surface that is MUCH softer! Carpet, in the residential setting, has a pad underneath it and is softer than other flooring surfaces to begin with. Falling on carpet lessons the risk of serious injury.

2. Is it easier to slip and fall on carpet, wood floors, or vinyl? Again the obvious answer is that wood floors, tile and grout, and vinyl are much easier to slip and fall on. Rarely would anyone ever slip on carpet!

3. Which flooring surface contributes to a healthier indoor air quality when kept reasonably clean? The answer is carpet! Carpets act like a huge filter, they trap and hold almost everything that is brought into your home. They trap and hold these comtaminants BELOW ankle level and all you have to do is vacuum the carpet to remove most of those contaminants. With wood floors, tile and grout, and vinyl the contaminants are dispersed much more easily into your breathing zone, which is not good.

There have been numerous studies done that show carpet actually contributes to healthy indoor air quality. So why do some doctors continue to advise their patients to take carpet out of their home? Because they are terribly misinformed. Carpeting is good for indoor air quality.

Besides the indoor air quality issues the other reason to seriously carpet for your home is appearance. Today carpet comes in so many different colors and styles that it is near impossibe to not be able to find something that goes with any decor. There is no other flooring surface around that offers as many colors and styles that carpet offers.

Carpet can also be far less exensive to buy and maintain than other flooring surfaces, especially wood and tile and grout. Carpet is not hard to maintain. Regular vacuuming goes a long ways to keeping your carpet looking good. Do regular spot and spill pickup and have your carpets cleaned on a regular basis by a quality professional company and you should be able to keep your carpet looking great for many years to come.

Wood floors can be VERY expensive to maintain and when the grout in your tile floors gets really dirty it can be extremely difficult to get that soil out. Wood floors and tile and grout have their place, but when you stack up the pluses and minuses of all the flooring surfaces carpet is really difficult to beat.

How to get blood out of your carpet

Posted by admin on August 24th, 2008 filed in General | Comment now »

One of the most common stains that can occur in a carpet is blood, and it is actually one of the easiest stains to get out of your carpet if you follow the procedure we are going to discuss. But first you must take some precautions when dealing with human blood.

If you know the blood is human you need to wear gloves when dealing with it. If the blood is from one of your pets you should still wear gloves but it probably is not quite as important to do so. But wear the gloves anyway!

Also, there is a major difference between a few blood spots and an area that is saturated with blood. If the blood has soaked the carpet and is into the backing, padding, or sub floor you need to remove the carpet, or at least a section of it, and the padding. NO exceptions!

The first thing you want to do should be obvious but we run into a lot of people that ignore this step. Get the spot as fast as you can. Do not let it sit in the carpet for a long time. Not only is that gross but it makes the blood harder to get out. So get to the spot fast.

Second, you have to try and get as much of the blood out as you can be either blotting it out or rinsing it away with a small extraction machine. Do NOT use hot water to do this. The water should be cold to barely lukewarm.

Once you are convinced that you have gotten as much of the blood out as possible then this next step is what will remove the rest of the blood. Closely follow this next step. Take some hydrogen peroxide and lightly spray the blood spot with it. Get enough on to dampen the fibers. Once you have done that then blot some more. Really blot it good.

After you have blotted the spot really good then apply some more hydrogen peroxide to the spot and let it sit for as long as it needs to sit until the spot is out. Sometimes this happens really fast, other times it can take an hour or so. Once the blood spot is not visable then take some warm water and rinse the spot thoroughly.

Brown bottle hydrogen peroxide can be bought at almost any grocery store in town and it will work 99% of the time. If you want to get a bit more aggressive you can get 20 or 30 volume hydrogen peroxide at your hairsdressor or Sally’s Beauty Supply. The more aggressive hydrogen peroxide will usually work faster.

Tuscan Chandeliers

Posted by admin on August 17th, 2008 filed in General | Comment now »

Tuscan style kitchens are those reminiscent of Italian countryside homes. They feature lots of earthy materials and warm colors. You’ll also see details like hanging copper pots, indoor herb gardens and decorative yet functional bottles of balsamic vinegar. Often the showpiece of this type of kitchen is a chandelier. Tuscan chandeliers for the kitchen can be installed in the center of the room or right above your kitchen island if you have one. There are various chandelier styles that would fit with this decor.

One style to consider is the candelabra style chandelier made from wrought iron or brass. The bulbs are contained inside upturned glass shades, sometimes in layers. This style is simple yet beautiful and works with the country decor of a Tuscan kitchen. Another idea would be to use a natural material for your kitchen chandelier such as Capiz shells or even wood. While wood chandeliers aren’t the most popular choice their warm, rustic look goes perfectly in any Tuscan style room. Of course you could go traditional and choose an appropriately sized crystal chandelier for instant glamour.

While many crystal chandeliers are massive, you can find medium and small sized ones to suit any room. They range in style from very intricate to simple. The crystal is ideal for catching and reflecting light. You can find clear and colored crystal when chandelier shopping. There are actually companies who can tint any clear chandelier the color or colors of your choice. Whether you choose a crystal chandelier or one made from some other material, you will definitely notice how it becomes a major focal point in your kitchen.

Tuscan chandeliers can be found online from a variety of stores. There are specialty lighting boutiques and even popular superstores like Home Depot and Lowe’s that carry a variety of choices on the Internet and at their physical locations. When shopping online for chandeliers you want to be wary of high shipping. Some companies do offer reduced price or no cost shipping if you exceed a certain dollar amount. You can also find a variety of hanging lamps at home decor boutiques and local lighting stores. Whether you buy online or from a local store you are sure to love your new Tuscan style chandelier.

Residential solar power kits contain various modules that when put together can power everything in your house. The main source of conversion is through what is known as photovoltaic cells otherwise known as photoelectric cells.

Solar panels are made up of the cells and are arranged in such a fashion that they soak up the power given off by the sun.

These photo cells gather up the suns energy and quickly converts that into electricity which can then be stored in super efficient deep cycle batteries. Power converters can then deliver this electricity as AC or straight DC power to your home.

Depending on the number of panels you install, it is possible to power up your entire house and get rid of the electric bill forever! Not only that but excess power can be pushed back out into the grid and sold back to the power company.

Rheem Tankless Water Heater-A Strong Competitor Of Bosch

Posted by admin on July 22nd, 2008 filed in General | Comment now »

The Rheem tankless water heater was created by none other than Edwin Rheem. In the early days after his creation Edwin went on to win many awards for his contributions to the technology in tankless water heaters. In recent years it was discovered in a little town in the state of Pennsylvania one of the oldest versions to date of the first versions of the Rheen tankless water heater. The water heater which was still operational dated back to the year 1904. It was also said that through all of those years in which it’s been in use, the establishment has never had to replace the unit. Who says our forefathers didn’t know how to build things to last.

Through the years there has obviously been vast improvements to this original design of the Rheem tankless water heater. These days we have everything from remote controls and wall thermostats to control our tankless water heaters. We can even be enjoying the fact that Rheem products of this type are now self diagnostic.

Bosch was the first company to come out with a product of this type. Shortly afterwards there were many companies out there trying to compete right along with Bosch. There were many failing companies. The Rheem tankless water heater company was not one of them, and boasts a complete competitive edge with Bosch to this day.

Free Criminal Background Check

Posted by admin on July 15th, 2008 filed in General | Comment now »

Free Criminal Background Check

Sometimes when you are planning to move to a new home or relocating your office you might need someone to take care of the moving process for you. Sometimes you might even have to rent a room in a storage facitlity to get some more space or to keep some things temporarily while you are moving you stuff. Then, what if those people that were supposed to look after your things actually arranged for them to be stolen? Don’t think they will? Well, I’ve got news for you, mate, because it has happened before.

Only a few years back in Chicago an old lady had to move from her home to a smaller appartment and arranged for a moving company to move her things for her. She also rented a room in a local storage facility close to her home. What she was not aware of, and neither was the owner of the facility, was that the leader of the night shift, a guy named José M**illio, actually was a member of the O.T gang and one night he arranged for his fellow gansters to break in and rob the place while he apparantly was out for a quick night snack. The police did not buy that story and the guy got caught but the moral of this story is that if the owner of the storage facility or its customers had done any kind of criminal background check, be it a paid or a free criminal background check, they would have discovered that some of the guys working there were some really bad apples. A background check can do you a lot of good infact.

Just think about it for a second…

Did you check on the guys decorating your house the last time you have people working outside or inside of your house? Did you do a paid- or free criminal background check to make sure that they guys installing the alarm had a clean record or that they guys decorating your kitchen weren’t convicted rapists or murderes that possibly could put your life at risk? I am not saying that "once a crook always a crook" but it is better to be safe than sorry, right?

Next time: Do a Background Check!

Free Criminal Background Checks - Can You Afford NOT TO?

Posted by admin on July 15th, 2008 filed in General | Comment now »

If you are looking for Free Criminal Background Checks online you may be dissapointed as you find that all sites offering Free Criminal Background Checks in reality only offer background checks you have to pay to get hold of. I have seen in forums and on websites all over the net that people looking for Free Criminal Background Checks are complaining that the background checks were not free after all and they are pissed because they have to pay to receive the information they are looking for. As someone who has done quite a lot of background checks online this attitude really surprises me.

Some people just seem to believe that anything that can be called information HAS to be Free? Let me ask you… Do you complain because the food at The Ritz is way more expensive than the beef at your local barbecue joint? Do you complaint because the your latest G-Star Raw Jeans cost 15 times more than the ones they sell at the factory outlet down town? Do you complain because you have to PAY for your NEWSPAPER? Most of the analogies above are maybe not that good but the newspaper one is! You DO pay to get hold of the latest news probably. At Least if you are not anywere near your computer with internet connection. In most cases the newspaper is just for relaxing and you could just as well go on without it. When it comes to background checks however, NOT getting proper information could have serious concequenses and as with everything else in life - QUALITY Has A Cost!

The Free Background Checks are often outdated info used to fill in the databases way back. If you want to get up to date information someone has to keep the databases up to date. Someone has to spend their resources, be it time or money, on keeping the records updated. So is it not just reasonable that you pay a few bucks for the information? Usually, with a service like CIS you only pay once and get lifetime accesss.

If you are moving to a new place or re-locating your offices, would it not be good to know who will take care of the moving for you? That they guys carrying out the transportation of your goods are not thieves?

Planning to do some improvement in your home? Would it not be great to know that they guys carrying out the painting in your bedroom or installing your new kitchen while you are at work actually won’t come back and rob you or take off with your silverware while you are at work?

Can you afford not to do a proper background check on the person taking care of your kids, your money, your work or being your date?
